Hot Water Beach

Hot Water Beach is the coolest, hottest beach we’ve ever been to. It’s located on the Cromandel Peninsula, the northeast corner of the North Island.  As the name suggests, this beach has hot water, but you’ll have to dig to find it.image

There are underground hot springs flowing up through the sand during low tide. Visitors bring shovels to dig pools in the sand that quickly fill up with steaming water.image

Once you’re done digging, you kick back and relax in your man made jacuzzi. When the water cools down, you can just dig deeper or start a new pool. You’ll find holes all along the shore during the low tide hours.image

Don’t worry if you left a shovel off your packing list, you can rent one there, use your hands, or borrow one from a nice stranger.
